Ashland — Old Church Tour

Featuring a Revolutionary-era plantation, and a 20th century home built in New England style, the homes on this tour date from 1720 to the 1900s. Union infantry and cavalry passed through Old Church on their way toward Cold Harbor in 1864. At the time only a few scattered buildings comprised the community of Old Church, including several residences and a tavern that served as headquarters for the Union cavalry corps. The original church that gave the community its name was gone by 1861. Just to the east stands its replacement, Immanuel Church, built in 1853.
